[Rumor] Samsung could manufacture Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy S23
Qualcomm recently unveiled Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, which will debut with all future Android flagships. Meanwhile, it looks like Galaxy S23 series could be packed with an overclocked version of Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, which will be manufactured in Samsung Foundry.

Wild rumors reveal that Samsung will manufacture Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in its own foundry, which could be used in Galaxy S23 series devices. The rumor further claims, the production of processors developed by Qualcomm could be in charge of the factories of Samsung Foundry.

Twitter user @RGcloudS claims that the Galaxy S23-exclusive Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset carries model number SM8550-AC, which is built on 4nm process tech-based N4P. Here, the PP stands for power performance indicating 5% higher frequency and 20% more power efficiency than the 8 Gen 2.
Through its own foundry, Samsung is likely to manufacture the custom processor’s components as per Galaxy S23 smartphones’ specifications. Since the Galaxy S23 lineup is going to use Snapdragon chipset worldwide, it’s an overclocked version, compared to the one released by Qualcomm.
About two weeks back, a tipster pointed out that Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor’s model number is SM8550-AB, while, the 8 Gen 1’s model number is SM8450. As Qualcomm used “AB” suffix in the model number, the Galaxy S23’s exclusive chip could have model number SM8550-AC.
Galaxy Unpacked February 2023
Just recently, it’s reported that the Korean tech giant will launch the Galaxy S23 series at an Unpacked event in early February in the US. Notably, Samsung executive declined to specify the city or the exact date of the Galaxy Unpacked event, while reports reveal it will be held in the first week of February in San Francisco.
