Apple defeated Samsung in the global market in October 2022 with shipments of the highest number of smartphones. Last month, phone makers shipped 105.68 million units worldwide, which is 11% less than the same period last year.

Researchers say Samsung focused on premium phone sales (such as Galaxy Z Flip 4, Z Fold 4 and S22 Ultra) and profitability. Meanwhile, Apple was the only major smartphone maker whose October 2022 global market sales increased month over month.

Europe

Coming to Europe, monthly smartphone sales recovered for two months in a row, but failed to survive against the market downfall trend from 2021. Europe’s smartphone sales in October were 12.01 million units, down 20% from the same period in 2021.

China

China, which is known as the world’s biggest smartphone market recorded 20.42 million units of shipment in October 2022, which is 4% less than in September and 15% less than in October 2021. Consumers skipped purchasing phones in October due to the 11/11 Singles’ Day shopping festival.

iPhone 14 Series

In two months of launch, Apple shipped 26.09 million units of iPhone 14 series devices, globally. The sales figure is not quite high compared to the iPhone 13 series but helped the company to challenge Samsung’s dominance in the global market.

It’s worth noting that the iPhone 14 Pro line accounted for 70% of 18.14 million units shipped. iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro max ranked first and second in global sales in October. The sales portion of super-premium phones over $800, led by the high-end iPhone 14 reached the highest ever point.
