Samsung registered a 15.5 percent share in the global foundry market in Q3 2022. In the same duration, the share of Taiwan’s TSMC reached 56.1% in the global market, up from 52.1% in the fourth quarter of last year.

It’s worth mentioning that the fallen foundry share didn’t radically affect revenue and sales as the report suggests. Samsung’s sales came in at $5.584 billion, which is just 0.1% less than the previous quarter.

On the flip side, the Taiwanese chipset maker’s sales claimed 11.1% from $18.145 billion in the second quarter to $20.163 billion in the third quarter. Here’s what TrendForce said on market analysis.
“Most of the foundry companies were affected by a decrease in customer orders, but TSMC enjoyed a big increase in order inflow due to strong demand for new iPhones.”
Samsung’s expansion of advanced processes helped it narrow the gap with TSMC to 33.8% points in the fourth quarter of last year, however, it widened to 40.6% points in the third quarter of 2022.
TSMC is going to establish a new production plant in Arizona, United States, and recently announced it would ramp up its investment in the country from $12 billion to $40 billion.
