Samsung Chief going Vietnam to open new R&D center

KoreaHerald reports that Samsung’s Lee Jae-yong is likely to go to Vietnam this week. Samsung Chief Lee could join the celebration of completion of the company’s new R&D (research and development) center. Besides, Lee is expected to meet Vietnamese President Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

Samsung R&D center’s completion ceremony is scheduled to be held on Thursday in Hanoi where the Vietnamese govt. officials would also present. Earlier, Lee Jae-yong canceled his attendance at the weekly trial proceedings for the Samsung C&T-Cheil Industries merger.

In Vietnam, the South Korean tech giant is the largest global investor. The company started the construction of the $220 million R&D center in March 2020, which is now almost completed. For the R&D center, Samsung hired 2,000 local people.

Notably, this new R&D center will be in charge of R&D for Samsung mobile devices, including smartphones and tablet PCs as well as software and hardware products. Built on 11,603 square meters of land, the center would be Samsung’s largest R&D facility in Southeast Asia.
