Samsung Galaxy S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra were among the first phones to install the December 2022 Android security patch in Europe. Now the company is rolling out the second December 2022 security update for Galaxy S20 series devices that installs a new feature.

The official changelog for this update only mentions improvements for system security and stability that aims to deliver users a seamless performance. But after exploring this new software update, GalaxyClub found that the company has also added Maintenance mode to these phones.

Samsung introduced the Maintenance mode with its Android 13-based One UI 5.0 software in October. Unluckily, due to unknown reasons, the Galaxy S20 series phone could not get this feature earlier, but now the company is releasing it with a security patch for the users.

Samsung Maintenance mode:

Maintenance mode, also known as Repair mode, is a new security feature to keep your private files and data safe from prying eyes and you can find it under Settings >> Battery and device care. It protects your privacy while someone else is using your phone.

On enabling the Maintenance mode, your phone will automatically switch to a new guest user account that doesn’t have access to any of your photos, videos, documents, credit card information, and other stuff, only preinstalled apps can be used.

Software versions:

The second December 2022 security update for Galaxy S20 series phones is rolling out in some European markets, including Germany and Switzerland, at the present time. And you can identify it through the One UI build version ending with GVL5.

Meanwhile, to get access to it, navigate to Settings >> Software update >> Download and install. Now complete the installation procedure and it’s done!

Samsung Galaxy S23 series users are getting the September 2024 security update on the Verizon network in the US through the One UI build version:

  • Galaxy S23 – S911USQS4CXHC
  • Galaxy S23 Plus – S916USQS4CXHC
  • Galaxy S23 Ultra –  S918USQU4CXI1

The fresh update brings security improvements, bug fixes, stability optimization, and functional enhancement to provide a better experience. Through this update, the company app protects your devices from several vulnerabilities and threats.

It is worth mentioning that the September 2024 patch addresses 1 critical issue and 43 high-level ones. One of these issues was already fixed in earlier updates, and another one doesn’t impact Galaxy devices.

Along with Google’s patches, Samsung is adding 23 of its own fixes to improve security in My Files, Theme Center, One UI Home, Knox, and Dex. The update overall improves the stability, security, and performance of the device.

September 2024 is about to end and Samsung is now rolling out a new update for the Galaxy S23 series, which reportedly addresses the camera zoom issue of One UI 6.1.1. After the last major update, users faced camera issues with their smartphones.

Following the release of One UI 6.1.1, several Samsung Galaxy S23 users reported issues with the zoom feature of the camera. When trying to zoom in between 16x and 19.9x while using Intelligent Optimization at maximum, the quality of photos dropped significantly.

The camera zoom issue led to frustration among users and prompted Samsung to pause the rollout of the One UI 6.1.1 update until the issues could be fixed.
