Over the past few months, Samsung reportedly made major changes in its Exynos strategy due to sluggish performance. Then the company created a team in its mobile division to create a tailor-made processor for Galaxy devices, however, Oppo is done with it and the chip may be coming in 2024.

According to trusted source IceUniverse, Oppo developed a tailor-made processor following the footsteps of Google. The tipster claims that Oppo independently developed the custom processor, which will be used in Oppo phones launching in 2024.

Further, the source noted that the Chinese phone maker has a chip development team of thousands of employees, which is likely to continue to develop its own processor. If Oppo gets successful in its plan, local smartphone vendors like Huawei “might” use the custom chipset amid US restrictions.

Notably, Exynos will not be coming in future flagship Galaxy devices starting with the Galaxy S23 series. The next Exynos SoC reportedly exists but it may be used in Fan Edition devices of Samsung. For now, the Korean tech giant only relies on Qualcomm for chipsets.

It’s worth mentioning that Samsung is expected to introduce its own Galaxy-exclusive chipsets in 2024. Ahead of this, the company has established the team under the mobile experience decision, which is responsible for research and development on AP for Galaxy devices along with optimization.

As Oppo reportedly completes the development of its own chipset, it would be interesting to see how it performs in the wild. Since Samsung has a long experience in creating industry-leading chipsets for mobile phones, we guess it will finally compete with Apple’s Bionic chips in the future.
