Samsung announces free firmware issue repair and refund in Australia

Thousands of Samsung Galaxy devices got inaccessible in Austria after a recent firmware update installation. The company acknowledged blank screen issues on certain devices in South Australia. Alongside this, Samsung announced free repair via service center and refund (if paid) on firmware issue in Australia.

Although manual factory reset (through recovery mode) will cause Google FRP lock, Samsung recommends consumers visit nearest service center. If their device got bricked due to “this issue” they will have a free-of-cost repair. And in case you paid to get the problem fixed at service center, you will get that money refund.

Samsung Australia stated on firmware issue repair:

“Customers who take their device to a Samsung authorised service centre and are confirmed to be affected by this issue will not be charged for any repairs relating to this issue, regardless of the Samsung Express warranty period,” a spokesperson said.

“If they have been previously been charged by a Samsung authorised service centre for repairs relating to this particular issue, they will be refunded for that work.”

As per affected consumers, their Galaxy got inaccessible shortly after installing the recent firmware update. The devices have not entirely bricked but consumers have to proceed with a factory reset to make them usable again. Factory reset will wipe every kind of data stored in phone’s storage.

Consumers in Australia are quite angry with the outcome of this issue as they literally lost their precious photos, videos and important documents stored in the device. Data saved on cloud can be recovered but there’s no way to get wiped data back.

On Wednesday, the company reportedly said, “Samsung has received reports from customers of an issue when updating their phones. At this time, these reports are from customers based in South Australia only. We are continuing to investigate this matter.”
