Samsung is looking to further expand its partnership with BMW for electric vehicle batteries. A report suggests that Samsung SDI is planning to invest in a battery plant exclusively for BMW vehicles in Hungary.

Back in 2009, the Korean company started a joint development project with BMW. It has been 14 years since both companies are maintaining the partnership. And now it is only going to get stronger for next-generation battery products like all-solid-state.

Meanwhile, it is expected that if the plant is done with an investment size of the existing second factory, it is likely to cost 1 trillion won. In this case, 12 million cells per month can be produced on 15 to 20 production lines.

Moreover, this new factory plant will be built near the existing factory in the Goed area, across the road from the existing Factories 1 and 2. The company has also done the processes of buying and selling land. Meanwhile, the foundation work could take place in the first half of the year.

Furthermore, the report claims that the new battery that Samsung SDI will develop is designed to meet the specifications requested by BMW. This is interpreted as an attempt to improve the driving performance of electric vehicles by lowering the center of gravity and increasing energy density.
