Samsung collaborated with Qualcomm to bring the Snapdragon-powered Galaxy S23 series globally. At the same time, the company is working on the development of its dream chipset optimized for Galaxy devices. Until it gets ready, Galaxy flagships may only use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chip.

According to Daum Money, Qualcomm will supply the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipsets for the Galaxy S23 series smartphones to Samsung. The Snapdragon chip for Galaxy S23 is different from the standard version with higher CPU and GPU clock speeds.

Until the Galaxy S22 series, the South Korean tech giant managed to use Exynos and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chipsets in the Galaxy S series country/region-wise. Due to low performance and heating concerns, the company used just 25% of Exynos SoCs in the Galaxy S22 series.

This year, Samsung is solely using the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor in the Galaxy S23 series smartphones. Since the development of Samsung’s dream chipset won’t complete in a short time period, it’s expected that the Galaxy S24 series will also follow the current chip strategy.

Inside its roof, Samsung Electronics is working hard to retain consumers’ trust in the Galaxy smartphone lineup, which slumped due to S22’s throttling issues. The company is making major organizational structure changes to improve its performance and create a Galaxy-exclusive chip.

Our take

Samsung should further expand its partnership with Qualcomm and MediaTek to get chipsets for Galaxy devices. Since TSMC’s foundry is producing chipsets with great performance and efficiency, Samsung must take inspiration from that instead of lowering just nm (process tech).

The company will surely get success in its dream chip development, but we suggest it use first in mid-range smartphones such as the Galaxy A5x instead of Galaxy S25. Samsung should also add talented chip field R&D workers to boost up the development process!
