Pay attention, smartphone vendors are required to release the kernel source code for Android-powered devices. The Google-made mobile platform uses the Linux kernel at its core. Samsung released kernel source code for the Galaxy S23 series’ Global and US models on its open-source release center.
Developers who are wondering to develop or explore Samsung’s new devices plus software can now grab the kernel source code. At present, Samsung is offering two different versions of source code for the Galaxy S23 trio with model numbers as follows:
- US Variants
- Galaxy S23: SM-S911U
- S23 Plus: SM-S916U
- S23 Ultra: SM-S918U
- Global Variants
- Galaxy S23: SM-S911B
- S23 Plus: SM-S916B
- S23 Ultra: SM-S918B

Using the kernel source code, developers and modders create custom ROM and experimental feature apps for devices. For general users, kernel sources are not useful at all, while they play a vital role in the development of custom ROMs and understanding under-the-hood stuff.
This year, the South Korean tech giant launched the Galaxy S23 series with a Snapdragon chipset worldwide. Hopefully, the global source codes may have unified kernel trees, if not, Samsung should share region-specific codes without longer delay.
