It is noteworthy that based on Android 13, the One UI 5.1 update is the last major software update for the Galaxy A42 5G models that were launched in 2020. The devices came pre-packed with the Android 10-based One UI 2 software and get the latest updates to Android 11, Android 12, and Android 13.
Officially, the Galaxy A42 supports three major Android OS upgrades, which have ended with the latest Android 13-based One UI 5.1. Now the devices will only get security patch updates with some optimizations and bug fixes.
Moreover, the One UI 5.1 update for Galaxy A42 comes with One UI built version A426USQU4EWB3. As mentioned, it’s rolling out for Verizon models, however, the company should take much time to spread it to more users globally.
As far as the new features are concerned, the Samsung Gallery app is getting more powerful searches, a convenient information display, a new Common family album for easier sharing, improves editing tools, and more.
The Camera app gets a new Effects button that lets you change the color tone of selfies effortlessly, the Samsung Internet app now lets you continue browsing on other devices, Modes and Routines allow you to set different wallpaper based on your activities, and the Bixby Text Call feature stats supporting the English language.
Other than these One UI apps, Samsung’s Widget section is also getting major changes with the new One UI version. It brings a new Battery Widget that shows your phone and connected devices’ battery at a glance.
Meanwhile, the Dynamic Weather widget provides a summary of the current weather, forecasts, and all information related to the present weather. Whereas, the Smart Suggestion widget now recommends a Spotify playlist based on your activities.
Aside from these, the update also improves system multitasking, such as you can now adjust the window size by dragging the window edges in any direction in the Pop-up view and can see categories for Recent apps and Most used apps, allowing you to quickly select apps for Split Screen.
