Google rolled out the second Developer Preview of Android 14 in early March, which brought a lot of new and unique features, one of which is the Material You Contrast level slider.

According to the information, Android 14 adds a new option for adjusting the contrast of the Material You theme color. Through the new Android versions, the company aims to make the Material You theme a bit more accessible.

Now, you can adjust the contrast of the Material You theme through the Contrast level feature. For that, open the Settings app on your Pixel smartphone, then tap on the Color and Motion option and here you can see a slider named Contrast Level.

At the moment, you can see three options for color contrast – Standard (the default appearance), High (significantly higher contrast), and a middle option that splits the difference. Currently, the Medium color contrast can be buggy for now, as parts of the content you cast to a single color.

The slider doesn’t affect the design or lighting, as changing the contrast of the middle or high recordings makes no discernible difference. At first, it appears that only a few colors are changing but on closer inspection, it is found that quite a few colors have been changed with each option.

In addition, almost everything has a slightly different color to it, from text color and shades to accents and selections. It is worth mentioning that certain apps made for Android 14 do support the new associated contrast levels.

Google introduced the Material You Theme feature with Android 12 and now it took on a far more colorful look with redesigned content for you to choose from. Still, the company is regularly working to enhance it more.
