Samsung Galaxy S20 series upgraded to Android 13-based One UI 5.0 later last year. Earlier, the Galaxy S20 smartphones received One UI 5.1, but Samsung will not bring the upcoming Android 14-based One UI 6.

The South Korean tech giant raised the bar of software upgrades for Galaxy devices. However, the latest policy doesn’t apply to the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Note 20 series, which were released in 2020.

Samsung Galaxy S20 Android 14

Samsung Galaxy S20 smartphone users will have to stick to the One UI 5.1 operating system. The devices have ended their major upgrades lifecycle by receiving Android 13, reaching the OS end of support.

The flagship lineup was released with Android 10-based One UI 2.1 out of the box. Starting with Android 11, the phone maker offered three OS upgrades to the S20 trio, however, there is 1 year of regular security patches are left.

Sadly, the S20 owners will see comparatively cheaper smartphones like the Galaxy A53 receiving major OS upgrades three times more. Including the  Android 13, the A53 supports a total of four generations of OS upgrades.

Samsung should have announced four major upgrades for the Galaxy S20 and Note 20 series too. Both lineups belong to its flagship range, and it sounds odd as the latest M54 supports four OS guarantee.

Android 14

Last week, Google started Android 14’s public Beta program for Pixel devices. At the I/O 2023 next month, the company is likely to make v14 DP official for some other brands including Xiaomi, OnePlus and OPPO.

Samsung, on the other hand, won’t take part in Android 14’s development with Google and others. However, the Android 14 will reach all supported Galaxy models within 2023, while rivals will take months more.

One UI 6

One UI 6.0 software will be introduced at this year’s Samsung Developer Conference, sometime in October. Ahead of this, the Android 14-based software will be available for select Galaxy devices to preview new features and design.

So, if you want to experience the next OS(es), you need to upgrade to a new Galaxy!
