Google is preparing to bring a new version of the Android operating system by August this year. Prior to its stable release, the company released two Developer Preview and one Beta build for Pixel phones. Now, Google pushed Android 14 Beta 1.1, bringing fixes to the most frustrating issues.

According to Google, the Android 14 Beta 1.1 is available for Pixel 4a (5G), Pixel 5, 5a, Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, and Pixel 7 Pro smartphones. If you’ve enrolled in the Android Beta for Pixel program, your device will get an over-the-air (OTA) update to Beta 1.1.

The main aim of Android 14’s Beta 1.1 release is to fix some critical issues, which have destroyed some basic functions such as the ability to change wallpaper, play with the Dynamic Theming engine, and the occasional failure of the in-screen fingerprint scanner.

Samsung Android 14 Beta

Next month, the Android 14 (as Developer Preview) could be announced for some non-Google phones such as OnePlus 11, Oppo Find X6 series, and Xiaomi 13 series. However, your Galaxy device will not let you enjoy the Android 14 in its purest form as Samsung runs independent Beta activity.

Instead, Samsung will introduce the One UI 6 Beta, based on Android 14, following its official release likely in August. The Galaxy S23 series will become the first beneficiary, while older Samsung flagships will also be eligible for the One UI 6 experience before its stable rollout.

Beta 1.1 of Android 14 addresses:

  • Fixed an issue where the system UI crashed when trying to access the Wallpaper & Style screen either through the Settings app, or by long-pressing from the home screen. (Issue #277938424)
  • Fixed some issues that prevented fingerprint unlock from being used. (Issue #272403537)
  • Fixed an issue where the status bar did not display the mobile network. (Issue #277892134)
  • Fixed an issue that prevented a SIM card or eSIM from being detected or activated in some cases. (Issue #278026119)
  • Fixed an issue where the lock screen displayed a message with an unresolved string placeholder when Smart Lock was enabled. (Issue #278011057)
