Samsung is leading over 80 percent share in the global foldable smartphone market, thanks to the Galaxy Z Fold and Flip lineups. As part of becoming unrivaled, Samsung is working on new ideas, which revealed yet another time in the patent showing off a foldable phone with dual hinge and 3 different display areas.

Per the PatentlyApple report, the US Patent Office listed a new Samsung patent application on the database, revealing the design of a future Galaxy Fold foldable phone equipped with a dual hinge and triple distinct display areas.

In order to cut costs and reduce pricing, Samsung is reportedly preparing a single foldable display, which could fold in various configurations. It means the company is finding ways to integrate internal and cover displays together by folding more than once.

Samsung’s patent relates to an electronic apparatus that comprises: a first display foldable with respect to at least one axis; a sensor configured to detect the folding state of the first display; and a processor operatively connected to the first display and the sensor, wherein the processor is configured to: detect the folding state of the first display using the sensor; determine the display area of the first display based on the folding state of the first display; select an operating system (OS) corresponding to the folding state of the first display; and display a user interface (UI) on the display area of the first display, the user interface being generated in the operating system.

Samsung often registers new patents to secure design and technology ideas achieved through years of research and development. Whether the patent design will be commercialized as a real product remains a mystery as initial ideas take years of development and testing to mature.
