Apple iPhone to bring satellite internet features in future: Report

Apple’s iPhone 14 introduced the Satellite SMS feature, which later cloned by various Android vendors and Huawei. Since Samsung is not ready to bring Satellite Communication features to its Galaxy devices, Apple appears to be bringing satellite internet features in the future.

According to FCC documents disclosed by Apple partner Globalstar, the future iPhone models could directly make satellite calls and surf the internet through satellites. In an FCC filing, Globalstar disputed T-Mobile’s assertion that “mainstream consumer devices do not support reception of Mobile Satellite Service (MSS) signals.”

“Globalstar’s MSS system will continue to evolve over time to support a growing array of direct-to-handset features and services in its licensed spectrum,” the company says.

“Ultimately, hundreds of millions of people globally will have Globalstar connectivity at their fingertips in situations where communications are critical, and no terrestrial network is available.”

Globalstar currently provides satellite services for the iPhone 14 series, but currently only sends emergency SOS text messages via satellite when conventional cellular services are inaccessible.

It was previously reported that many competitors, including AT&T and AST SpaceMobile, are working hard to implement satellite Internet access on consumer-grade mobile phones.
