Samsung will address the silly Galaxy S23 selfie camera glitch

During the June OTA development, Samsung developers may have made some mistakes leading Galaxy S23 users toward a severe issue related to the selfie camera. A report emerged on the community forum that S23 Ultra front camera automatically enlarges the face, similar to a convex lens filter.

The consumer said that this problem occurs randomly, not all time, confirming that it’s a software glitch. You may have noticed that whenever you take a selfie, your face appears to be enlarged like a convex lens filter. If you didn’t notice, try viewing by taking a selfie and viewing it before processing completion.

“It’s the S23 Ultra model, but after the 7/1 software update, if you take a selfie with the front camera, the face is enlarged strangely as if a convex lens filter was applied, and it is automatically corrected.

The picture is edited so strangely that I don’t want to look at it. Is everyone like this? It feels like a convex lens filter, as if the entire face is trapped in a large circle;” Source

Meanwhile, the Korean community’s camera in charge speculated that this glitch may be because of a distortion correction engine. The selfie camera of the Samsung Galaxy S23 probably calling the distortion correction engine, which should not be done by it as it’s applied to the rear camera.

As the July patch rollout is already underway, consumers may have to wait until the next firmware, probably the August 2023 patch. This would address the silly front camera bug that appeared on the Galaxy S23 series smartphones post-June update installation.

“In the process of updating after adding the rear camera distortion correction function, it seems that the distortion correction engine, which should not be applied, is called under certain conditions of the front selfie. We will provide a corrective update as soon as possible.” Source
