Fairphone beats Samsung’s rock-solid updates policy with 7 year support

Various Samsung devices released in 2021 and later come with support for five years of software updates. It’s the same support as Google offers to Pixel smartphones, while Fairphone just defeated all Android OEMs by pledging a total of 7 years of updates.

In a recent development, Fairphone announced (via Arstechnica) that the Fairphone 3 has had its support extended to 2026, making for 7 years of updates. It came as the cherry on the cake for the users of this smartphone as Android 13 also begins to rollout starting today.

We aim to support Fairphone 3 for at least 5 years after launch 📱, providing software updates until the end of August 2024. But since longevity is one of our core values, we aim for 2 extra years of support, taking us to 2026! 🌿
