Xiaomi India President cited Reuters that the company seeks to revive smartphone sales from retail outlets after falling behind Samsung. The Chinese phone maker will focus on boosting sales from retail outlets in India, years after big bets on e-commerce.

China’s Xiaomi dominated the Indian smartphone market by offering budget phones with considerable specifications. The gap left by Samsung helped Xiaomi to gain status in the world’s second-biggest smartphone market, but it didn’t last long.

Thanks to the Galaxy A, Galaxy M, and Galaxy F portfolios, Samsung regained its popularity in India. Indian e-commerce sales have surged in recent years through Amazon and Flipkart. Meanwhile, Xiaomi wants to grow further and rescue itself through offline sales in the country.

“Our market position offline is substantially lower than what it is online,” Xiaomi’s India head, Muralikrishnan B., said in an interview on Friday. “Offline is where you have other competitors who have been executing fairly well and have a larger market share.”
