Months after owning Twitter, Elon Musk finally freed the Bird. Today, X officially takes over as Twitter, bringing a revamped (interim) logo as well as plans for expansion of services in the future.

X is the new official name of Twitter, confirmed by the owner, Elon Musk. It’s a bold decision that came days after the arrival of Instagram’s Threads app. In addition, the domain X[dot]com now also points to Twitter.

As of now, the changes are live in all countries on the web application, coming to Android and iOS soon. The Tesla owner wants to make it as functional as China’s popular WeChat app.Twitter CEO, Linda Yaccarino also announced the arrival of X and wrote “It’s an exceptionally rare thing – in life or in business – that you get a second chance to make another big impression. Twitter made one massive impression and changed the way we communicate. Now, X will go further, transforming the global town square.”

She explained this new brand identity is going to form an everything app “Centered in audio, video, messaging, payments/banking – a global marketplace for ideas, goods, services, and opportunities.” Inspired by the well-known chat app WeChat, it has been a long-time vision of Elon Musk.
