Google Play services is a part of Android that offers features from Google, like backup and security to apps work better. It receives regular updates, even if your Android device does not. But Google Play services will stop working on very old Android devices soon like those using Android 4.4.

Android 4.4 KitKat came out almost 10 years ago and Google says less than 1% of people still use it, so the company will no longer support it after August.

This means that KitKat devices will not get new features or fixes from Google Play services. In addition, Android 4.4 supporting devices will also not work well with some apps that need Google Play services.

Google explains that the company is doing this because it is difficult to maintain support for old devices for a long period of time. The company wants to concentrate on developing new things for newer devices. If you have a KitKat device, you might want to upgrade to a newer one soon.
