Samsung says Hacking leads security innovation
On August 22, Samsung held the 7th Samsung Security Tech Forum (SSTF) at its R&D Campus in Seoul, South Korea. At this year’s SSTF, Samsung notes that hacking is a key element that leads security innovation by examining areas that have not been prepared for.
This year’s forum held under the theme of “Hack for Security: How hacking drives security innovation.” As hacking techniques have evolved, security technology has also grown along with it.” We are looking for security vulnerabilities, Samsung notes.

Samsung Research Security & Privacy Team Leader Hwang Yong-ho explained in his keynote speech, “Hacking is a key element that leads security innovation by examining areas that have been overlooked or have not been prepared for so far.”
In addition to Samsung officials, invited lectures were given by prominent scholars in the field of security technology, such as Professor Kang G. Shin of Michigan, Professor Insoo Yoon of KAIST, and Professor Joon Han of Yonsei University.
In this year’s more extensive technical session, research contents of the authors of the papers of leading security conferences, joint projects between Samsung Research and the division, and the role and activities of hackers in the company were introduced.
Samsung Research researchers from the United Nations team Blue Water, who won first place in the preliminaries and second place in the finals at the world’s best hacking competition ‘DEFCON CTF 31’ held in the United States this year, also participated in the session presentations.
