YouTube has an issue with its long-form videos, which are the main source of its income. The Financial Times said that YouTube’s senior staff have discussed how long-form videos are becoming less popular, according to their own data.

Short-form videos like YouTube’s Shorts are more appealing to viewers and advertisers, bringing less money per view. YouTube’s income from ads has gone down in three of the last four quarters, and YouTube has done some things to increase its income, such as making YouTube Premium more expensive and stopping ad blockers.

YouTube said that Shorts was not supposed to take over other formats on the platform, but to add to them. It said that creators can use different formats, such as audio and live streams, to connect with their audience.
