Samsung’s dominance in the foldable smartphone market is apparently a threat. Huawei is undoubtedly managing to survive against US restrictions, as the new Mate X3 propels it to dethrone Samsung as foldable smartphone market leader internationally.

According to Omdia, with the launch of its new foldable smartphone in April, the Mate X3, Huawei surpassed Samsung to become the biggest brand in the fold-type foldable smartphone market with a 32.9% market share in the second quarter of 2023.

Samsung still maintains the leading spot in the global foldable market if clamshell-type foldable phones are included. Huawei reportedly left out the flip-style phones as part of putting focus on the fold-type products, and the strategy is making profits.

Tipster Revegnus notes that Huawei’s lead in the market was influenced by Samsung’s usual practice of reducing shipments of its existing foldable handsets in the second quarter due to the characteristic release of new foldable smartphones by Samsung in the third quarter.
