In Q2 2023, Samsung retained its global market leadership despite shrinking market. The company shipped 53.9 million smartphones in Q2, maintaining its lead in shipments, though there was a 12.4% decrease from the previous quarter.

Market research firm TrendForce mentioned, following the post-launch halo effect of its flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S23 series, Samsung’s Q2 sales decreased year-on-year. As for the Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 released last July, their sales impact is expected to be minimal compared to the S series.

Apple, which will be releasing its new iPhone models in September 2023, sees Q2 as its weakest due to reducing production of existing models in anticipation of the new release. The company’s Q2 smartphone shipments amounted to 42 million units, a 21.2% decrease from the previous quarter.

The research agency revealed that the total smartphone shipments in Q2 decreased by 6.6% from the previous quarter, tallying up to 272 million units. The combined shipments for Q1 and Q2 were 522 million units, a 13.3% decrease year-on-year, marking the lowest in a decade.
