One more Chinese phone maker—Xiaomi—is replicating Samsung’s Android and security updates policy. The company will soon unveil the new Xiaomi 13T smartphone lineup, which will have support for 4 generations of Android OS updates, as well as 5 years of security patches.

We (Xiaomi) are proud to announce a significant enhancement to our commitment to providing exceptional software support. Xiaomi 13T and Xiaomi 13T Pro will include 4 generations of Android OS upgrades, as well as 5 years of security patches.

In early 2022, Samsung debuted its extended software policy, offering 4 generations of Android OS upgrades, as well as 5 years of security patches to Galaxy flagships starting the Galaxy S21 series. In 2023, the same software policy applied on select affordable Galaxy A phones.

Google could also revise its software support plan, with the Pixel 8 series being eligible for 5 OS upgrades and 7/8 years of security patches. If it happens, Galaxy consumers can expect the same treatment for next year’s Galaxy S flagship lineup.
