Asus has not become a major player in the smartphone market. However, the company has a big range of patents, making revenue from it and services as a shield against potential legal threats. In a recent development, Asus sued Samsung over violating its 4G/5G wireless communication patents.

According to DigiTimes, Asus is suing Samsung over alleged violations of its wireless communication patents, targeting devices like the 4G/5G Galaxy phones, and the Galaxy Z Flip 5. Previously, Asus demanded a licensing fee for its patented tech but didn’t reach an agreement with Samsung.

It’s worth mentioning that Asus has recently formed Asus Technology Licensing and Innovative Sonic Limited, which is the owner of its patents. This company filed a lawsuit against Samsung in the Eastern District of Texas over a single wireless communications patent (U.S. Patent No. 10,187,878).

The patent in question is described as a ‘method and apparatus for improving a transmission using a configured resource in a wireless communication system’ and covers 4G and 5G smartphones. RPX Insight says (via Tom’s Hardware) that the patent is a standard essential patent.
