With a handful of major announcements, Google made the Pixel 8 series remarkable. It not only expanded the Pixel 8 smartphones’ Android OS and software support to 7-year but Google also has you covered for spare parts over that period.

Launched back on October 4, the Pixel 8 smartphones would get seven years of updates; new OS, feature drops, and timely security patches. In addition, a Google representative confirmed (via AndroidAuthority) that the company will offer spare parts for Pixel 8 devices for 7-year.

Soniya Jobanputra, director of product management at Google, told Android Authority in an interview:

“Parts will be available for seven years. That’s part of our commitment as we go to the seven years (sic) that we need to make our parts available so you can keep your hardware alive for that long.”

During the event, the US tech giant announced its partnership with iFixit in the US. Through this, consumers residing in the country would be able to purchase spare parts. In other markets, the company may partner with local service providers to ensure spare parts availability.

Samsung should replicate

As Samsung sells the most Android phones in the world, Google’s move should be replicated. While Galaxy consumers demand expansion in software support, the spare parts department should also be seen. At present, Samsung provides spare parts for Galaxy smartphones for four years after the device is released.
