2024 to witness Slidable/Rollable display phones arrival, but not from Samsung’s stables!
China-based smartphone makers are racing to grab the milestone of commercializing the world’s first Slidable smartphone. A new report reveals that China-based Vivo and Transsion are developing Slidable display phones, and aiming later 2024 launch in the market.
According to TheElec, Vivo and Transsion are aiming to launch the world’s first Slidable phones as early as the end of 2024. As Samsung dominates the foldable smartphone market, Chinese vendors are expecting to compete for the title of launching the world’s first Slidable phone.

Vivo
Vivo is developing a Slidable phone with the intention of launching it around the same time. The company’s Slidable phone panel is likely to be supplied by CSOT or Samsung Display. The industry estimates that CSOT may be more active in supplying panels for Vivo’s rollable display phone.
Transsion / Tecno Mobile
Transsion (AKA Tecno Mobile outside China) is reportedly developing Tecno Phantom Ultimate with the goal of launching it as early as the end of next year. The company is making sure to design the internal structure so the screen can expand and contract smoothly, and the expanded screen can withstand shocks.
World’s first foldable phone isn’t from Samsung!
Notably, Samsung was not the first company in the world to launch a foldable phone. The company launched the Galaxy Fold, the first generation of foldable phones, in 2019, and about a year earlier, in 2018, China’s Royole launched the world’s first foldable phone, “FlexPai.”
