Samsung’s Sleep Rave: Using Dance Music to Revolutionize Sleep Quality

On October 16, Samsung organized the very first Sleep Rave ever in the Netherlands.

In a week that is notorious for sleep deprivation, Samsung wants to help Dutch Gen Zers and Millennials by using the Galaxy Watch 6 to investigate whether the music that normally keeps you awake – dance music – can also contribute to a good night’s sleep.

During the Sleep Rave, the Dutch DJ duo Mr. Belt & Wezol, in collaboration with independent neuroscientist and sleep expert Dr. Els van der Helm, will play an eight-hour DJ set specially developed for sleep for a select group of Sleep Ravers.

While the Sleep Ravers doze off in comfortable beds from Swiss Sense, listening to the sleep-promoting DJ set from Mr. Belt & Wezol, their sleep patterns are monitored throughout the night with Samsung’s latest smartwatch with sleep coaching: the Galaxy Watch 6.

The Galaxy Watch 6 measures sleep stages, sleep score and sleep consistency to improve sleep. To create a real rave setting, the Sleep Rave is held in a well-known place for dance parties: the monumental Chapel of Hotel Arena in Amsterdam.

The sleep data collected during the Sleep Rave is used by Dr. Els van der Helm and Mr. Belt & Wezol to develop an ultimate sleep track. For example, sleep scores, the moment of falling asleep, the sleep phases, and sleep consistency are examined.

This track will be launched on October 29, the day that winter time starts, and is notorious for its negative effect on your sleep rhythm. The track is being developed with the aim of helping Dutch Gen Zers and Millennials fall asleep better.
