Samsung Galaxy S10 series gets unexpected update in October 2023

October 2023 is going on and Samsung has surprised Galaxy S10e, S10, and S10+ owners by releasing a new security update for the 2019 flagships. Users can identify the latest update through the One UI build version ending with version HWI1.

The latest update installs the September 2023 security patch to improve system security and stability. The update is currently rolling out only on the Telcel network in Mexico, and it is unclear if other markets or carriers will get it.

The Galaxy S10 series reached the end of its software support cycle earlier this year, after receiving three major OS upgrades and four years of security updates. The last update for these devices was released in March 2023, so this new update is quite unexpected and possibly a one-time exception.

It is unlikely that this update signals a change in Samsung’s policy regarding security updates for older devices, as the company recently announced that it will provide four years of security updates for its newer Galaxy devices.

Samsung Galaxy S10e, S10, and S10+ users in Mexico can check and install the latest update by going to Settings >> Software update >> Download and install.
