To offer a seamless login experience, WhatsApp is officially rolling out Passkeys support. This service opts to use your face or fingerprint to access your accounts. It’s more secure than PINs and passwords that people often create easily memorable.

Through its X account, WhatsApp announced the rollout of Passkeys support for its Android application. The post notes that you’ll be able to use your face, fingerprint, or PIN to enter the messaging app. Passkeys can also be based on a PIN, but most devices support facial or biometric authentication.

Through a simple fingerprint or facial scan, WhatsApp users will log in to their account. A connected phone number will still need to be verified, presumably at the first launch or after a period. Notably, WhatsApp hasn’t made mention of a rollout date, hence the rollout will take place gradually.
