At Semiconductor Expo 2023, the Chief Technology Officer of Samsung Foundry Division revealed that big customers are in touch for 2nm and 1.4nm semiconductors. If everything goes all well, there will be changes in the next few years.

Industry considers it as a response to the criticism that Samsung is still lagging behind TSMC in terms of securing large customers such as Qualcomm and Nvidia, even though it succeeded in mass producing the 3nm GAA (Gate All Around) process.

If a problem occurs with a chip manufacturer, customers also suffer damage, so they have no choice but to be careful in selecting suppliers. However, the Korean tech giant expressed confidence in securing large customers in the 3nm and below advanced processes.

CTO Jeong said, “While the GAA process is a sustainable technology, it is difficult to find any further improvements in FinFET technology,” and added, “We are in discussions with large customers for future processes such as 2-nano and 1.4-nano.”
