Apps
Google Wallet to make transit payments easier with new features
Google Wallet app is getting a major update to improve its functionality and user experience. The update brings new features to make transit payments more convenient and efficient for users by using open-loop payment systems.
The update will introduce new features such as a dedicated page for recent activity and ride history, support for network-specific offerings, and the ability to add ORCA transit cards in Seattle and the Puget Sound Region.
The new page will help users keep track of their transit spending and savings, as well as their connected payment method. Users will also be able to see updates from the transit agency about any changes or delays in their service. This feature will launch first for Brighton and Hove Buses in the UK and will expand to more cities next year.
Another feature that will be available soon is the ability to add ORCA transit cards to Google Wallet on their phone and Wear OS watch. This will allow users to access real-time card balance, and transaction history, and reload their balance. This feature will follow the previous integration of Clipper cards in San Francisco and SmarTrip in Washington, DC.
