Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo revealed that the introductory production of the standard iPhone 17 will start in India in the second half of 2025. The NPI (new product introduction) for Apple ‌iPhone‌ 17 will happen in India, marking the first time outside China.

In India, the iPhone maker works with Foxconn, Pegatron, and Wistron (Tata) to manufacture the products. Kuo says that increasing production in India provides Apple with an opportunity to strengthen its relationship with the local government.

Additionally, Kuo added that the standard iPhone is chosen for its lower-difficulty design development to reduce design risk. The company wants to diversify its manufacturing out of China, with iPhone 15 assembling started before the announcement.

The proportion of Apple iPhones made in India will increase to 20–25% by 2024. At the same time, Foxconn’s production scale in Zhengzhou and Taiyuan, China, is expected to decrease by 35–45% and 75–85%, respectively, by 2024.
