Google Messages has been working on a new feature called “Profiles” for several months. The feature is currently in beta and allows users to set up a name and a photo on their profiles.

The Profile feature will allow users to further customize their profiles to enhance the messaging experience. The new beta update of Google Messages that arrive with version 20231106_01_RC00 shows the ability to “Choose your profile name and picture so people can recognize you.”

Furthermore, it will offer on/off toggles to control “Profile Sharing” and “Visibility”. You can receive notifications when new contacts are found, as well as “contact updates.” The profile name and photo will likely appear at the top of the conversation. Currently, tapping on it opens the Google Contacts app.

Apart from this, the Google Messages app is also testing other features like Google account-based device pairing and voice recorder redesign which the company has not yet announced officially. Hopefully, Google will bring these features to the Messages app soon to enhance performance and experience.
