Samsung seizes whopping 80 percent market share in South Korea

Samsung accounted for over 80 percent of South Korea’s smartphone sales in the third quarter of the year amid contracted demand for high-end gadgets, reports Counterpoint Research.

Around 3.4 million smartphones were sold in the country during the third quarter, down 10 percent from a year ago. Samsung’s smartphones dominated the market, capturing 84 percent of total sales.

Apple’s market share increased by 2 percentage points to 15 percent over the cited period despite the delayed release of its latest iPhone 15 series, which became available in stores in October.

The newly launched Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Fold 5’s popularity helped the company capture more market share. Meanwhile, other smartphone makers, including Motorola, held 1 percent of the market.
