Google Messages is rolling out a new feature named ‘Profile Discovery’, which lets you set your name and photo across the messaging apps and more. It helps anyone with your phone number or email to recognize you in apps like Messages, Gmail, Chat, and Photos.

To use Profile Discovery of Google Messages, you need to have the latest beta version of Messages installed on your Android phone. This feature is not yet widely rolled out, but you can expect to see it soon on your phone.

When the feature is available, you will see a prompt to choose a name and picture for your Google profile. You can select from various options, such as your full name, just your first, initials, or a custom name. You can also pick your current profile avatar or a letter on a generic background.

Once set up, your name and photo will be associated with your Google Account and your phone number. You can change them anytime from the Messages Settings >> Advanced >> Profile Discovery. You can also turn off the feature if you don’t want to share your name and photo.
