For the first time, Samsung is offering a hardware-based security solution Samsung Knox Native. It has been evaluated by the BSI for processing classified information with the classification level “VS – For official use only” (VS-NfD).

Secure mobile communication and secure mobile solutions for storing data have been around for a long time – including for processing classified information. But until now this required external SD cards, additional software, and various PINs.

For the first time, a hardware anchor – the Samsung embedded Secure Element (eSE) – will be available in selected Enterprise Edition devices. This encrypts sensitive data using the BSI Java Card Applet and raises the security of the data to a high level.

The eSE with integrated BSI Java Card Applet has now been released by the BSI for processing classified information. The use permit applies to calendar, mail, and contact functions as well as Samsung Knox VPN and Knox UCM as well as the Knox Suite.

One advantage of Samsung Knox Native is its ease of use: a single PIN is enough to activate all areas. There is also the option of securely integrating company-owned apps via specific interfaces, for example, without further complex evaluation.
