Apple is testing a punch-hole display, which could see the light in the iPhone 17. Before bringing a punch-hole display to the Galaxy S10 series, Samsung brought it to the Galaxy A8s smartphone. While Galaxy A8s was a mid-range handset, the technology was widespread with the S10 flagship.

An X post by user @MajinBuOfficial reveals that Apple is testing the iPhone 16 Pro with a punch-hole display. The post further mentions that more details will be out by March next year. However, the technology is expected to be commercialized with iPhone 17.

Ditching the traditional notch, Apple introduced pill-shape cutout on the iPhone 14 Pro series. The company advertised this old tech as Dynamic Island, which has some software-derived surprises. This year’s entire iPhone lineup features Dynamic Island display.

Samsung’s Infinity-O Display

Samsung first introduced the punch-hole display smartphone in 2018 – Galaxy A8s. The company expanded this excellent display tech to flagships from Galaxy S10 series to the latest Galaxy S23 series. While foldables have no cutout for selfie camera, the UPC tech could come to regular flagships in near future.
