Apple’s under display camera iPhone to arrive when Samsung’s UPC ages 5 years!
Apple completely ditched the display notch with the iPhone 15 lineup this year. Well, Apple is expected to launch iPhone with under-display camera technology after 2026. The company’s camera supplier has reportedly begun the development of under panel camera.
TheElec sources say that LG Innotek was found to have begun advanced development of UPC. The company is developing a special lens called the “Freeform Optic” lens to overcome the limitations of the existing under-panel camera tech – insufficient light quantity.

It is reported that Apple received under-display camera samples for iPhone from related companies but evaluated its performance as unsatisfactory. However, the US tech giant plans to apply Underpanel Face ID to the front of the iPhone before applying UPC.
By applying a freeform lens, the thickness of the peripheral lens can be controlled, thereby reducing the aberration of the optical system and optical module and increasing the light ratio around the optical system and optical module, the image quality of the area can be improved.
It’s worth noting that Samsung has been applying UPC to the internal screen of the Galaxy Z Fold series since 2021. The camera specifications are still low, with the UPC applied to last year’s Galaxy Z Fold 4 and this year’s Z Fold 5 limited to 4-megapixel.
