Google Messages adds a colorful wallpaper feature to RCS chats

Google Messages app is getting a new feature that will make it easier to determine RCS chats from regular SMS/MMS messages. The app is releasing a colorful background wallpaper for RCS conversations. The new feature is currently under testing and may not be available to all users yet.

The wallpaper feature consists of overlapping circles or bubbles in different shades of color. It is more noticeable in light mode, but it also works in dark mode.

Google Messages already has some ways to indicate RCS chats, such as a chat icon in the compose field and a badge on the user’s profile picture. The wallpaper feature adds another layer of recognition and personalization to the app.

However, the wallpaper feature is different from the Custom Bubbles feature that Google announced earlier this month. The Custom Bubbles feature will let users choose from nine colors for their message bubbles.
