Android Auto is set to stop functioning on older Samsung devices
Google has recently pushed the Android Auto version 11.0 update. Changes aside, this version hints that older Android devices will no longer supported. In their APK teardown, 9to5Google reports that Android Auto won’t be functional on devices running below Android Oreo.
According to the info, a future update of Android Auto is set to notify users about the need to upgrade to a newer Android version or device. From their investigation of the app’s code, Android Oreo will be the new minimum requirement.
<string name=”phone_os_deprecation_notification_title”>Update Android</string>
<string name=”phone_os_deprecation_notification_content”>To keep using Android Auto, update your phone to the latest version of Android</string>
Apart from notifying on your phone, Android Auto is expected to show a warning on your car’s infotainment screen:
<string name=”car_os_deprecation_title_text”>Update your phone soon</string>
<string name=”car_os_deprecation_body_text”>To keep using Android Auto, install system updates</string>
While the changes are not yet rolled out, your Android phone running version Naugat will continue to support the Android Auto application. However, it won’t last longer as the changes are in the pipeline and deployment may happen at any time.
