Samsung simplifies app names on Galaxy Watch 4, Watch 5 with December 2023 update [Verizon US]

Samsung has started rolling out the December 2023 security update for Galaxy Watch 4, Galaxy Watch 4 Classic, Galaxy Watch 5, and Galaxy Watch 5 Pro on the Verizon network in the US. The update brings some improvements and changes to provide a better experience.

The latest update has simplified the Samsung app names on the watch. The update removes the “Samsung” prefix from the app names, such as Samsung Health, Samsung Pay, Samsung Wallet, and Samsung Global Goals. The new app names are Health, Pay, Wallet, and Global Goals, respectively.

Moreover, the update also provides some general improvements to the Watch’s performance and stability. The firmware versions of the December 2023 security update for Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 5 series on Verizon network in the US are given below.

  • Galaxy Watch 5 – R905USQU1BWL1 (40mm) / R915USQU1BWL1 (44mm)
  • Galaxy Watch 5 Pro – R925USQU1BWL1 (45mm)
  • Galaxy Watch 4 – R865USQU1HWL1 (40mm) / R875USQU1HWL1 (44mm)
  • Galaxy Watch 4 Classic –  R885USQU1HWL1 (42mm) / R895USQU1HWL1 (46mm)

The update is being rolled out in phases, so it may take some time to reach all the eligible devices. Its size may vary depending on the watch model and software version.

Users can check for the update manually by going to Settings >> Software update >> Download and install on their watch. They can also use the Galaxy Wearable app on their smartphone to check for the update.

Users are advised to connect their watch to a Wi-Fi network or a strong Verizon wireless network before downloading the update. They should also ensure that their watch battery is fully charged or connected to a charger during the update process.
