Threat to Samsung? Huawei silently growing its mobile processor portfolio

After a year of silence, Samsung is set to introduce its new premium self-developed smartphone chipset next month. Meanwhile, Huawei is also silently growing its portfolio of smartphone processor, a possible treat to Samsung and others in the future.

The Chinese phone maker has recently confirmed its new mid-range smartphone range – Nova 12 series. Notably, the Huawei Nova 12 Pro comes with a Kirin 8000 processor, hinting at the company’s new creation for mid-range / non-premium smartphones.

While the chipset’s CPU cluster remained a mystery, it’s likely to be manufactured on SMIC’s 7nm process technology. Even though the Kirin 8000 will likely be slower than the competition, Huawei’s primary objective was to reduce dependency on foreign companies.
