Google Maps ‘Driving Mode’ to be discontinued in 2024
Google Maps for Android is planning to remove the Driving Mode feature soon, which provides a simplified interface for drivers. According to strings found in the latest Google app update, this feature will be discontinued in February 2024.
The search giant decided to kill the Driving Mode in 2022 but left a similar feature in Google Maps, which could be activated after starting driving navigation. This feature had a black bar at the bottom of the screen, with shortcuts to Assistant, Google Maps, and other compatible apps.
However, it seems that Google is also planning to remove this feature from Google Maps, and direct users to use the voice-activated Assistant instead.
The strings in the Google app suggest that users will have to tap the mic icon to call, message, or play media while navigating. The strings are not yet visible to users, but they indicate that the change will happen in February 2024.
