Earlier this week, Intel revealed its plans to establish a new semiconductor production line in Israel. This investment plan, first announced last June, was uncertain whether it would be implemented due to the outbreak of war.

The Israeli government announced that Intel has decided to build a new foundry production line, ‘Fab 38’, in the Kiryat Gat region. This is Intel’s third foundry line built in the country and is scheduled for completion in 2028.

There is a high possibility that Intel’s post-18A microprocessor will be introduced in the new factory. The ‘Post 18A process’ refers to a finer process than the 1.8nm level ultra-fine process promoted by Intel.

The finer the semiconductor process, the better the performance and lower power consumption. Currently, Korea’s Samsung and Taiwan’s TSMC are mass-producing 3nm products and preparing for processes below 2nm.

Unlike Samsung and TSMC, Intel, a latecomer, is understood to be trying to establish close relationships with customers in Europe and the Middle East by introducing cutting-edge processes overseas.
