Epic Reborn: Samsung’s Galaxy S3 and Note 2 run Android 14

Samsung Galaxy S3

Samsung’s legendary Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 devices can run Android 14. It sounds unbelievable as the likes of Galaxy S20 and Note 20 flagships are not eligible for this upgrade. Thanks to a developer who made it possible to install Android 14 ROM on these epic flagships.

A 3rd-party ROM developer (via AndroidAuthority) has posted Lineage OS 21 custom ROMs for Samsung’s Galaxy S3 and the Note 2. These firmware builds bring Android 14 to both smartphones, however, it requires custom ROM flashing, which is a tricky yet risky part.

It’s worth noting that Android 4.4 KitKat was the last major upgrade for Galaxy S3 and Note 2. The devices got a handful of security updates as part of the company’s commitment. However, Android 14 comes as a surprise for our readers who have one of these models in their drawer.

To install Android 14-based Lineage OS, you first need to unlock your phone’s bootloader. Once done, you will require a custom recovery like TWRP through Odin or Heimdall, and then install (aka “flash”) this custom ROM through TWRP.

Due to its unofficial nature, the build has some bugs, which are not a bad deal. Also, there are some stability issues, and storage encryption is not working. Google Apps are not included in the custom ROM package, needing another app package flashing procedure.

Forget Exynos, Snapdragon: Cheapest Galaxy S25 could use MediaTek Dimensity chip

Samsung Galaxy S24 September 2024 update

Galaxy S25 vanilla model could use MediaTek Dimensity chip. This wild rumor comes after Samsung adopted Dimensity chipset across the Tab S10 lineup. It is being said that the cheapest S25 model could be equipped MediaTek chip globally.

Samsung will debut the Galaxy S25 series in early next year. Snapdragon 8 Elite chip is all set to be used in the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S25 base variant could make use of the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 processor.

The reason is, cost…

MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400 reportedly costs 20% less than the Snapdragon 8 Elite. Samsung could cancel the Exynos 2500 chip in the Galaxy S25 series. Hence, the Dimensity 9400 could be a good option to keep the dual-chip strategy alive.

It seems Samsung is exploring ways to diversify its mobile chip supply chain. Exynos SoCs could stay away from mainstream flagships until reaching the performance benchmark. As MediaTek is doing good, the base variant should get it.

MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400 shares the same fabrication tech as Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite. The US tech giant has fueled its Oryon architecture which brings a major push to overall performance but results in higher costs.

There are rumors of Galaxy S26 cancellation due to low demand for small flagship. The company could make this chip difference to clot the Plus and Ultra sales. However, these all are just assumptions as the official launch is far away.

Dimensity 9400 could feature Arm’s all-new Cortex-X925 CPU and Immortalis G925 GPU. Arm revealed that the target frequency of the X925 is 3.6GHz and higher. Immortalis-G925 GPU is designed to offer the best gaming and AI experience
