Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chip for Samsung’s new XR headset launched

Qualcomm officially launched the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chipset, which will power Samsung’s new XR headset. During Unpacked last February, Samsung revealed that it’s collaborating with industry leaders like Qualcomm and Google for the XR space.

The newly announced Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 offers 4.3K per eye resolution with up to 90 frames per second. The company claims that it will offer extremely clear visuals in different scenarios, such as large screens, virtual desktops, and life-size overlays.

In terms of performance, the SD XR2+ Gen 2 chipset comes with a 15% bump in GPU and a 20% bump in CPU frequency. There’s also support for 12+ concurrent cameras, which help with hand and body tracking, while, additional features include 12ms full-color video see-through and support for Wi-Fi 7.

Qualcomm itself revealed that it’s working on a new product that will be based on the SD XR2+ Gen 2 with Samsung and Google. The chip arrived on its speculated timeline, similarly, the Galaxy XR with Snapdragon chip and Google’s OS could go official by second half of 2024.
