Google and Samsung collaborate to introduce Quick Share for Android and laptops, rebranding Nearby Share
Google and Samsung have announced a new collaboration to bring a singular file-sharing solution to Android devices called Quick Share, which will replace the existing Nearby Share and Samsung’s Quick Share. It has a circular icon with two arrows.
Quick Share feature will allow users to easily send and receive files locally across different types of devices, including Chromebooks and Windows PCs. It will start rolling out in February to devices running Android 6.0 or higher, ChromeOS 91 or higher, and Windows 10 (64-bit version) or higher.
Google is working with leading PC manufacturers, such as LG, to make Quick Share a pre-installed app on Windows devices. Samsung devices will receive an update from the Galaxy Store to switch to the new Quick Share experience.
Google says Quick Share is the best default, built-in option for peer-to-peer content sharing in the Android ecosystem, and hopes to provide a seamless and convenient way for users to share files across devices.
